How is the Origin Color Palette used?

The Origin Color Palette

The Origin Color Palette allows you to define 16 additional colors that will appear in color list controls in Origin dialogs. You can access the editor for the Origin Color Palette from the Format menu.

When a color from the Origin Color List is selected, the index in the list is stored in the color property of the object edited. This scheme has some important implications.

  • Since there are many templates and procedures in Origin that have saved an index which references a color in the list, editing a color or changing a color's position in the list could affect existing templates and procedures. We recommend you neither edit nor change the position of any of the first 24 colors (the default set).
  • Since the colors you may add to this list are only storing an index value and since other Origin users may have defined this index color differently or not at all, we recommend that you not use any of the 16 user defined colors (index 25 to 40) with any project file you want to share with others.
When it is available in a color list, you should use the 'Custom' color option which will store RGB color information and is shareable with other users.

Additional Information

An edited Origin Color Palette is stored in the User's ORIGIN.INI file. If a group wishes to share the same colors, they may do so by including the information from the [Color List] section of one ORIGIN.INI file in all user ORIGIN.INI files.
Beginning with Origin 8, the Color Palette is no longer used since it caused problems with project portability. Origin 8 has a better mechanism for storing 16 user defined colors. KEYWORDS : Custom Color Palette OPJ ORG Project
