I already have a license file for this computer, so why does the License Information dialog box open when I start Origin?

If you have already obtained a license file for Origin installed on a particular computer, and you had been running Origin OK, but now when you start Origin the License Information dialog box opens, consider these possible causes and solutions:

1) Check if you purchased a renewable serial number, and if so, if the renewal date has passed. Renewable serial number always contain a "3" in the following serial number position:
xxxxx-x3xx-xxxxxxx
If your serial number is renewable, re-check your Origin purchasing material to identify the renewal date. If the renewal date has passed, then this is causing the License Information dialog box to open. You need to contact OriginLab or your Origin distributor to renew your Origin.

2) If you purchased a permanent serial number or if your renewable serial number date has not expired, then the License Information dialog box is probably opening because Origin detected a change in the computer's network device or in the operating system.

a. If you re-installed Windows or you replaced the computer's network device, this will cause Origin to generate a new Computer ID. This case requires that you obtain a new license file from the OriginLab website. In addition, please email OriginLab Technical Support (tech@originlab.com) and include your serial number, version, and a brief note letting us know you required a new license file for this reason. We will then update the licensing database so that you have another license file available.

b. But if you did not re-install Windows or replace the computer's network device, then you may be seeing the License Information dialog box due to a problem in Origin. For laptops with both wired and wireless network access, sometimes Origin generates two different Computer IDs. Also, sometimes Origin generates different Computer IDs when a computer is attached/not attached to a docking station.
The best way to solve these types of problems is for us to create a new license file for the computer which contains both Computer IDs. So in this case, please email OriginLab Technical Support (tech@originlab.com) and include your serial number, version, the Computer ID that you currently see in the License Information dialog box, and a brief summary of the problem. Also, please attach to your email message the license file (orglab.lic) that is located in your Origin \FLEXlm subfolder. This will provide all the information needed to make a "combined Computer ID" license file, which OriginLab Technical Support will send back to you.
