Origin 8.1 now supports the network common data form, or netCDF (*.NC) data file format, up to and including version 3.1.
When importing a netCDF file into Origin you can specify which data channels from the file to import.
Origin's netCDF import routine imports the data and its associated metadata. The imported metadata is placed into user-defined parameter rows in the worksheet column header. These can then be utilized when analyzing and graphing your data.
The ability to import, visualize, and utilize metadata from these files makes Origin an ideal platform for working with netCDF (NC) data.

Unidata is a diverse community of over 160 institutions vested in the common goal of sharing data, and tools to access and visualize that data. The Unidata Program Center (UPC), as the leader of a broad community, explores new technologies, evaluates and implements, technological standards and tools, advocates for the community, and provides leadership in solving community problems in new and creative ways.
The netCDF project homepage is hosted by the Unidata program at the University Corporation for Atmospheric Research (UCAR). They are also the chief source of netCDF software, standards development, updates etc. The format is an open standard.
