National Instruments™:
NI DIAdem™ DAT and TDM/TDMS
|
|
Origin 8.1 now supports these popular formats developed by National Instruments:
When importing into Origin, the file information for the selected DIAdem DAT, TDM, or TDMS file is displayed in the import dialog. In addition, you can specify the channels (DIAdem DAT) or channels and groups (TDM/TDMS) to import. Origin imports the data and its associated metadata. The imported metadata is placed into custom parameter rows in the worksheet column header. These can then be utilized when analyzing and graphing your data.

The ability to import, visualize, and utilize metadata from these files makes Origin an ideal platform for working with DIAdem DAT and TDM/TDMS data.

National Instruments is a virtual instrumentation company that produces measurement and automation software for scientists and engineers in industry, government, and academia. National Instruments produces many products, among them LabVIEW, for which we provide a LabVIEW VI browser and Origin VIs, and DIAdem, a software for managing, analyzing, and reporting data collected during data acquisition and/or generated during simulations. |
TDM/TDMS
The TDM (Technical Data Management) file format is a scalable, search-ready format that can be produced by many of the products offered by NI, including LabVIEW, LabVIEW Real-Time, LabVIEW SignalExpress, LabWindows/CVI, LabWindows/CVI Real-Time, and DIAdem. TDM and TDMS (Technical Data Management - Streaming) files utilize XML and binary headers, respectively, and are designed to efficiently store, manage, and share all the relevant information produced during a measurement or simulation test. The TDM and TDMS file formats have replaced the older formats used by NI and are therefore more widely used at this time.
- The TDM/TDMS File Formats
*
- Capture all test information, including
test setup, configuration, observations,
and results in a structured format
- TDM utilizes XML headers, while TDMS uses binary headers, making each file type search-ready, flexible, and portable
- Provide a standard data format that
easily grows with changing requirements
- Improve exchange of information
among individuals, departments,
and organizations
DIAdem DAT
The DIAdem DAT file format is a file format used prior to the development of the TDM file format. DIAdem DAT files allow you to store measurement data as well as add additional descriptive information like a UUT number, operator, or test procedure for a test rig application, for example.
